Magnificent Pair Carved Wood Gilt Shelves

A magnificent matching pair of large wood and gilt wall shelves supported by two wonderful hand carved heads, from a fabulous estate near Stanford University, in Menlo Park, California, circa early 20th Century. They appear to be female heads of royalty, with a neoclassical influence. Each piece measures approximately 16 long X 18 wide. The shelf itself measures 8 3/4 deep at the widest part.
These beautiful shelves were superbly carved and gilded by master craftsmen, similar to the head used in Herter Brothers furniture. They would make a very impressive decorative statement on either side of the door at an entrance, by a fireplace, or many other places as well. As you can see from the photos, they are in very good condition and ready to hang on your wall.
